Social media is a chance for people around the globe to express themselves, their opinions, and share content. Some social medias grow larger in comparison to others, such as YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. The website Vimeo was launched in November 2004 by Jake Lodwick and Zach Klein.

The platform was the first streaming platform to allow high definition uploads to its site in 2007. Despite this, the platform did not grow to be as large as YouTube. This was most likely due to the fact that Vimeo ceased hosting gaming videos in 2008, due to the larger video durations. This would negatively impact an entire demographic of viewers and people making content, causing them to prefer YouTube and other platforms.
In comparison to YouTube, Vimeo’s conditions for uploading content is restricting. Unless a user pays for premium packages, the size limit of the video to upload is 500 MB, whereas YouTube allows videos as big as 20 GB to be uploaded for free. The quality of the content found on Vimeo is also not as good when compared to YouTube, as Vimeo only allows for up to 720p, while its counterpart goes up to 1080p, HDR, 4K, and 8K.
Vimeo does have its pros too though. The site offers unique privacy settings for content creators. Settings include requiring a password to watch a video, or to embed a video to websites. The site also allows creators to make adjustments to a video and re-upload to the same URL even if a mistake is made to allow the statistics to remain. Vimeo seems to be the better option for people involved with making a website, people who make small errors, or people who want privacy when uploading a video.
