Blogs on the internet cover various topics that may interest people of certain demographics. The two blogs I’d like to compare are The Earth Story and Smitten Kitchen, both of which specialize in differing topics.
The Earth Story is a blog that is run by a group of individuals who have a background in Earth Science. On the blog, they post pictures of pictures of different earthly sights such as oceans, climates, geology, etc. The main reason I like this blog is because the photos they share portray beautiful highlights of what can be found on Earth; however, I will criticize it for not having as many scientific facts as I thought it would have. This blog has a scientific theme to it, targeting individuals who share a similar interest earth science and want to be shown different aspects of nature. If any subscriber to this blog wants to reach out to the authors, the blog contains tabs for asking questions and submitting posts. Across the top of the page, there is a tab that features a link to the group’s Facebook page.
The blog Smitten Kitchen is run by a woman named Deb Perelman and is designed to showcase unique recipes to subscribers of the blog. This website is categorized in an orderly matter, with recipes labeled under specific categories. The blog is nice to explore, as it showcases a wide variety of recipes. However, when it comes to reading up on recipes, I find it oddly formatted, as the ingredients and instructions come at the bottom of the page, after the author gives an experience in relation to the food. On the main interface of the page, there consists a list of social medias in association with Smitten Kitchen.
Bloggers can monetize their sites through a few different ways. The most common method is to place ads on the site, where money is gained via clicks or views on advertisements. Alternatively, a blogger could sell private ads if you have enough traffic, or could sell digital products including forms of media such as images or music, eBooks, etc.
